5 Types of Link Building

There are many reasons to build links to your website, and sometimes, it is hard to determine if one link is better than another, or if it is worth anything at all. For example, a dofollow link is better than a nofollow for some purposes, but not for others. And a redirected link may hold no value for SEO, but may still prove valuable. Here are the types of links that you can build to your website, and why you should take advantage of a mixture of each. Traffic Generating

Search Ads Top Record High of $6.3 Billion Ad Spending in Q4 ’09

The Interactive Advertising Bureau and Price Waterhouse Coppers’s IAB Internet Advertising Revenue Report for 2009 is showing some quite interesting findings regarding the comparison of online ad spends and search spending. Search Ads topped the spending over the past year, comparing Q4 2008 & Q4 2009. According to the report search advertising revenue grew slightly from 45% in 2008 to 47% in 2009. This is despite the fact the overall U.S. internet advertising revenue went down 3.4% at $22.7 billion in 2009 (but again, increased in Q4). In a nutshell, search rules! So, while overall spending decreased, online search & display ad spends increased :) Thanks to an upsurge in spending during Q4 2009 (a good sign), the overall increase in internet ad revenue increased. If the recent couple of months are any sign, this increase is not ending anytime soon. I do not know about every particular search marketing firm or consultant, but we are busier than ever and the end does not look like it’s in sight! Other interesting findings of the IAB report: Display-related advertising—which includes display ads, rich media, digital video and sponsorship—totaled nearly $8 billion in 2009, showing an increase of 4% from 2008. One component of display-related advertising, digital video, continues to experience robust growth, with an almost 39% increase from 2008 to 2009. These latest revenue figures underscore the significant share shift taking place from traditional media to digital. Based on industry data from PwC from 2005 to 2009 in five key U.S. ad-supported media (television, radio, newspapers, consumers magazines and Internet), the Internet’s share of combined ad revenue grew from 8% to 17%. Facebook to Change “Become a Fan” Button to “Like” on Fan Pages

Facebook will soon be changing the “Become a Fan” button that you see on Fan Pages to the more universal “Like” button. According to the site Clickz , Facebook has started sending confidential email to ad agencies informing them that the “Become a Fan” button which functions as a subscription/membership button  to fan pages will be changed to “Like” button within the next few weeks. And what could be the reason for the upcoming change?  Unfortunately,  no specific details were divulged yet from the email sent to ad agencies. Facebook just wanted to give them advance notices as this might affect their advertising campaigns or Facebook strategy. This is particularly so since Facebook is recommending that ad agencies start using the phrase – “Find us on Facebook”  or “Like us on Facebook” instead of  the current “Became a fan.” In addition, the email also explained that the new “Like” button will be different from the current “Like” button that Facebook users click whenever they like particular updates of their friends. Facebook believes that by changing the “Become a Fan” button to “Like”  will increase engagement between consumers and brands as it offers a simple, consistent way for Facebook users to connect with the things they are interested in. Facebook did some research and found out the users are more likely to “Like” something instead of becoming a fan. Check out the SEO Tools guide at Search Engine Journal .
