I have previously shared the guide on how SEJ tools ‘ Link Manager helps you organize link building campaign . Today’s post details how all your current and pursued links are managed through Website Directory . The Website Directory contains all of the websites that have ever been added to a link record across all your account profiles. The best thing about the tool is that it makes your link building records searchable – which make it becomes much easier to refer to your previously built connections. For example, if you start building links to a new website that is similar to other websites you’ve managed, you can use the directory to find links and relationships that may relate to the new website – making your initial link building efforts much easier and more efficient. Fun Ways to Improve Facebook Ad CTRs
Driving traffic to your website or Fan page through Facebook advertising is becoming a popular trend these days. And for good reason too! Facebook is easily capable of sending you thousands of highly targeted visitors! But with all of the advertising Facebook users are subjected to, what can you do to make your ad stick out? Traditionally, Facebook ad click-through rates (CTRs) are pretty horrible. From my research I’ve seen that an average performing ad will have about a 0.02% CTR. A few weeks ago when I had decided that I wanted to use Facebook ads to drive awareness to a contest I was running called RavenHunt , I found my ads falling into that average category (or worse!). I had setup these two ads: The “Play RavenHunt and Win!” ad had a CTR of 0.017%, and the “Win a Free FlipHD Camera!” advertisement’s CTR was higher at 0.022%. Not bad CTRs by Facebook standards, but I wanted something more. So I asked myself, “Self, if you were the target audience for these ads and were putzing around on Facebook – what would make you click on an ad?” What I wasn’t considering was that my target audience (Internet Marketers) are used to these types of ads. In fact, they are the type of people who create ads just like these. So that’s when I decided to get silly. People love to laugh, and it was my theory that if you had a funny enough ad you’d be able to increase your CTRs. Additionally, I knew that I needed images that naturally drew a person’s attention to them. I needed kittens and puppies. And that’s when I created these two ads that doubled my CTRs: The “Puppies Are Awesome” ad had a CTR of 0.04% and the “This is a cat.” ad was just shy of that at “0.039%”. So by adding some fun to my Facebook ads, my CTRs increased. That got me thinking again – is there a way to combine the two approaches and still maintain a higher CTR? And that’s when I created the ad, “A Game for SEOs by SEOs”: This ad had a 0.06% CTR and didn’t go overboard on the silliness. Instead, it spoke to it’s target audience more appropriately, and still had a less than standard headline. It just goes to show that with the right creativity and the right amount of effort, you can make significant differences to your Facebook ad campaigns. Now if only I can get that number up to 0.1%. DIY Blog Post Graphics For The Non-Designer
Adding pictures and graphics to your blog posts is an easy way to enhance your message. Using a Creative Commons picture or stock photo is common, but creating a custom graphic is unique. Not only do custom graphics help you craft the perfect complement to your text and improve “linkability,” but you’ll never get caught in that group of “ people-who-all-used-the-same-stock-photo .” What if you don’t have the time or ability to create professional-looking custom graphics? I once spent hours on a custom graphic that ended up looking like tie-dye horse crap. I know I’m not the only one. Fortunately, rather than give up or labor through making your own custom blog graphics, you’ve got other options. There are a lot of websites where you can easily create custom graphics for your blog posts without needing any design skills. I’d like to highlight a few of my favorites. Charts & Graphs GraphJam – From the people who brought you LOLcats, GraphJam typically provides some pretty hilarious graph humor, but its “Build Graph” function is awesome for custom pie charts, Venn diagrams, etc. Sure, you could do the same things in Excel and have it look nicer, but what makes GraphJam awesome is that you don’t need a data source to create the graph. Say you just want an exponentially increasing line graph to illustrate a point, just click-and-drag until it looks the way you want, label it, and you’re done. Text-Based Graphics A lot of generator sites allow you to create a custom graphic using your own text juxtaposed on a preexisting picture. Some of them are quite good and can really make you look awesome without doing anything. A lot of them are pretty cheesy. Ultimately, they save a lot of time for the non-designer. SignGenerator.org has hundreds of different sign and graphic generators and half of them look pretty decent. The other half are bad enough to be funny and effective. See also SignGeneratorMaker.com . 123pimpin.com has a fair amount of quality generators organized by theme. AddLetters.com has fewer generator resources, but some are fantastic. VeryCoolWriting.com offers a basic text generator with options for customization. While simple, sometimes all you need is text in graphic form to do something that normal content can’t provide. FamousDefaces is a great way to add a caption to a celebrity or historical figure. Sometimes you just need someone like Elvis to drive your point home. There are obviously some drawbacks to using these sites to make visuals for blog posts, but there’s no easier way to create a decent blog graphic. (And this lets you to use puns to your heart’s content). Scott Cowley is an SEO Manager at SEO.com, a search engine marketing company . Google Launches DoubleClick for Publishers
Google has just announced its new ad serving technology which is geared for both large and small scale online publishers – DoubleClick for Publishers. This is actually a result of combining Google Ad Manager and DoubleClick Ad Exchange which Google purchase in 2008. DoubleClick for Publishers, the main service will be available for large online publishers while DFP Small Business is geared for growing online publishers and is a simple, free version of the DFP. Existing DART for Publishers users will be automatically upgraded to DoubleClick for Publishers over the next year, while Google Ad Manager accounts will be moved to DFP for Small Business in the coming weeks. DoubleClick for Publishers will have the following features: A new interface that has been completely redesigned to save time and reduce errors. Far more detailed reporting and forecasting data to help publishers understand where their revenue is coming from and what ads are most valuable. Sophisticated algorithms that automatically improve ad performance and delivery. A new, open, public API which enables publishers to build and integrate their own apps with DFP, or integrate apps created for DFP by a growing third-party developer community (apps under development today include sales, order management and workflow tools). Integration with the new DoubleClick Ad Exchange’s “dynamic allocation” feature, which maximizes revenue by enabling publishers to open up their ad space to bids from multiple ad networks.
